The Lord Commissions Joshua

1:1 After Moses the Lord’s servant died, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant:

Yosua 11:11

11:11 They annihilated everyone who lived there with the sword ¹  – no one who breathed remained – and burned ²  Hazor.

Yosua 13:29

13:29 Moses assigned land to the half-tribe of Manasseh ³  by its clans.

Yosua 13:31

13:31 Half of Gilead, Ashtaroth, and Edrei, cities in the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were assigned to the descendants of Makir son of Manasseh, to half the descendants of Makir by their clans.

Yosua 15:4

15:4 It then crossed to Azmon, extended to the Stream of Egypt, ⁴  and ended at the sea. This was their ⁵  southern border.

Yosua 19:11

19:11 Their border went up westward to Maralah and touched Dabbesheth and the valley near ⁶  Jokneam.

Yosua 21:40

21:40 The Merarite clans (the remaining Levites) were allotted twelve cities.

Yosua 22:18

22:18 Now today you dare to turn back ⁷  from following the Lord! You are rebelling today against the Lord; tomorrow he may break out in anger against ⁸  the entire community of Israel.

Yosua 24:5

24:5 I sent Moses and Aaron, and I struck Egypt down when I intervened in their land. ⁹  Then I brought you out.

Yosua 24:29

An Era Ends

24:29 After all this ¹⁰  Joshua son of Nun, the Lord’s servant, died at the age of one hundred ten.

[11:11]  ¹ tn Heb “and they struck down all life which was in it with the edge of the sword, annihilating.”

[11:11]  ² tn Heb “burned with fire”; the words “with fire” are redundant in English and have not been included in the translation.

[13:29]  ³ tn Heb “assigned to the half-tribe of Manasseh, and it belonged to the half-tribe of Manasseh.”

[15:4]  ⁴ tn Traditionally “the Brook of Egypt,” although a number of recent translations have “the Wadi of Egypt” (cf. NAB, NIV, NRSV).

[15:4]  ⁵ tn The translation follows the LXX at this point. The MT reads, “This will be your southern border.”

[22:18]  ⁷ tn Heb “you are turning back.”
